Catrina Blackwood is 27 and a professional concert pianist. Every year she goes to Scotland to spend time with her maternal grandfather, Shay McCowlyn, the Earl of Crieff. Born and raised in Maine, she finds her father and oldest brother keep playing matchmaker with no success. This year, her trip to visit her grandfather has a couple of twists. First, she meets an elderly passenger on her flight to London which detains her arrival in Scotland while she assists this first-time traveler. Landing in Scotland the next day, she catches sight of an extremely tall dark-haired man traveling with an elderly companion.
Her grandfather’s best friend, Ian McCord, has known Cat since she was 5 because his youngest daughter was Cat’s mother’s best friend. This year, Ian has a surprise visit from his middle daughter Beverly, who has been living in the United States for over 25 years. She’s accompanied by her nephew, Cord Winston, who meets his grandfather for the first time. Ian throws a gala party for Beverly and Cord and makes sure Cat and Shay are invited. At this gala affair, Beverly introduces her nephew from Oklahoma to Cat. Shay teases that her Prince Charming might have been attending but could not have foreseen the events that would follow. Ian would love to have Cat for a granddaughter so he could enjoy her piano playing. A pack of wild dogs sends the community up in arms to protect their livestock and horses. Cord rescues Cat after wild dogs attack her grandfather’s prize stallion, and she flees on the horse unarmed.
Trying to rush things, Shay invites Bev and Cord to a formal dinner and selects a royal gown for Cat to wear. Cord thinks she is too rich a lady for his cattle ranch in Oklahoma and flees back to the states to forget her. Cat tells Shay that Cord has lassoed her heart, and she is heartbroken when he abruptly goes home without saying goodbye. Back at the ranch, Cord is miserable. He discovers he can’t forget his Scottish lassie, and he wants a chance to get her into his life. The grandfathers cook up a scheme for Cat’s next tour year. Her second stop will be playing in Oklahoma City for a special unseen group. Cord surprises her on stage after her performance with red roses and a proposal of marriage. When Cat’s brother Danny arrives with his wife Linda and four sons, Cord realizes his new ranch home isn’t as spacious as when he and Bev were living there. Then, the night of their wedding, a tornado destroys Cord’s ranch home and Cord’s plans for his new bride. Together, they select plans for a new home to be built. Cord’s younger sister Katie disappeared over ten years ago with a half million in cash and the family car. She returns to ask Cat for cash and leave Cat with her 12-day-old newborn daughter. The newlyweds find themselves new parents but quickly fall in love with tiny Kathy.
A group of armed men break into the modular home where they are living while the new ranch home is under construction. Officer Grant discovers a piece of paper that is the floor plans for the home with a red X marking where Cord has the safe with his cash on hand located. Cord thinks his sister Katie is trying to steal more cash. Kathy’s first trip to visit her pediatrician ends in near disaster when a red pickup truck T-bones their SUV and a stray bullet causes Cat to miscarry. Only Cat’s 357 revolver stops a hooded woman from grabbing Kathy from the back seat. Cord learns from the FBI that Katie planned to sell her baby through a black-market baby agent. When she learned that her big brother had a wealthy wife, she decided to sell the baby to them and cheat the then very unhappy baby agent. A final shoot-out in their modular home results in the death of the agent and his female accomplice but are their troubles over? What else can life possibly throw at them? Frank Dailey and his son Kyle are building the new home as quickly as they are able. Of course, Frank has to take some time to court Beverly McCord and wed her.
Once new home is completed and they get settled in, they have two unexpected and very unwanted visitors. A nest of rattlesnakes and Cord’s sister, who has decided she wants to take her daughter back. They have another wedding to attend in Texas when Frank’s son, Kyle marries Linda’s sister, Sara.
Will this trip to Texas be a happy occasion or the nightmare Cord fears? Go visit Cat and her Cowboy and discover if they ever find a life for themselves.
